In December 2015, Vermillion Enterprises, LLC submitted an application for approval of a Planned Development to construct a 27-story mixed use building with 217 dwelling units at 601-611 Davis Street. The developers planned to preserve the existing two-story University Building at the northwest corner of Chicago Avenue and Davis Street.
The proposal did not advance through the City approval process, but at a combined First and Fourth Ward meeting held at the Evanston Public Library on March 7, the developers presented a proposal to increase the height to 33 stories and 318 residential units. The residential units would include studios, junior 1-bedroom, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom units, ranging from 505 to 1,515 square feet. Forty percent of the units are planned to be two- or three-bedroom units.
The proposed development would include 6,700 square feet of retail space on the ground floor.
The developers plan to provide 179 on-site parking spaces and 10 off-site parking spaces associated with the University Building, which will be preserved. Additional parking would be offered off-site at the City’s Church Street garage, subject to the City’s approval.
The next meeting date is yet to be determined.
