Residents are invited to a meeting about an affordable housing project in the Second Ward, proposed by Housing Opportunities for Women (HOW). The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on April 25 at Erie Evanston-Skokie Health Center, 1285 Hartrey Ave.
HOW is proposing to build a 16-unit apartment building at 2215 Dempster St. with on-site services and amenities for residents.
Staff from HOW and the City will provide information on the project and address questions, including those from recent meetings. HOW has applied for funding from the Illinois Housing Development Authority to build the project and, pending approval from IHDA, will apply for gap funding from the City of Evanston.
The project will provide stable housing and on-site services for income-qualified families with children.
An estimated 400 children in Evanston schools are homeless or unstably housed.
