Evanston’s American Legion Post 42 will host a homemade pasta dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. on May 20th to raise travel expenses for disabled veterans competing this summer at the National Veterans’ Wheelchair Games. Post 42 is located at 1030 Central St., next to the CTA Central Street stations.

For a $12 donation – $15 at the door – guests at Post 42 meeting hall can enjoy pasta al dente with meatballs and sauce, plus salad, garlic bread, soft drinks, and coffee.

Kids 6-and-under eat free and an expanded raffle will feature all manner of donated prizes.

Proceeds help send the Lovell Legends team of wheelchair-bound veterans, including many getting care at North Chicago’s Capt. James A. Lovell VA Hospital, to the 37th annual Wheelchair Games to be held July 17-22 in Cincinnati.

Co-sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs and the Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Games include archery, basketball, bowling, power soccer, softball, swimming, table tennis, and weightlifting.  Athletes compete against others with similar athletic ability, competitive experience or age.

Contributions and purchases of raffle tickets – at $5 each or six for $25 – are welcome and can be sent to American Legion Post 42, Box 42, Evanston, IL 60204.
