Dining etiquette was on the agenda for the May 10 meeting of the students in the Officer and Gentlemen Academy (OGA). The 14 young men, all students at Nichols Middle School, had dinner at Koi Restaurant on Davis Street. The OGA partnered with women from the Evanston Police Department, School District 65, City Council, and the community at large.
“Our young men displayed great table manners, chivalry, and proper etiquette. The women who dined with our young men provided feedback for ways of improvement,” said Evanston Police Officer Adam Howard, one of the facilitators of the group.
Officer Howard, Nichols School Principal Adrian Harries, and District 65 Student Engagement Coordinator Bryon Harris are piloting this 12-week program, designed to promote leadership and confidence in these young black men as they navigate middle school.
