Target has announced plans to open a 27,400 square foot small-format store at The Shops at Sherman Plaza in downtown Evanston, slightly north of the redesigned Fountain Square. Target has signed a lease with a wholly-owned subsidiary of Highlands REIT, Inc. for this small-format store, projected to open in March 2018. The Evanston Downtown store will be the company’s 84th location in the Chicago metro area, and the company’s ninth small-format store in this market.
Target is focused on expanding small-format stores in dense urban and suburban neighborhoods, as well as on college campuses. Target’s small-format store assortments are tailored to meet the needs of local guests. The Evanston Downtown Target store will provide Northwestern University students and the downtown working, residential and visitor populations a quick-trip shopping experience and an assortment curated with local guest needs in mind.
In addition to the new store’s product assortment, Target’s Order Pickup service – the ability to buy online and pickup in store – will provide guests with the convenience of having their orders ready within one hour for pickup and the security of having online orders shipped to, and held at the store.
Small-format stores are a priority for Target. The retailer plans to operate more than 130 small-format stores by the end of 2019. Guests who visit the 36 small-format stores currently open around the country have responded well to having these customized shopping experiences available in their neighborhoods.
