On June 25 and 26, this year’s “Show of Summer 2017” theme is “Children at Play,” a Garden Club of America Flower Show.

In 2015, the Garden Club of Evanston completed an eight-year project on the campus of the Evanston Township High School: to inventory, research, photograph, and supplement and label all trees and woody shrubs with botanical signs for educational and display purposes.

A guidebook for a walking tour, titled “Arboretum: A Collection of Trees and Woody Shrubs,” provides a photographic chronicle of the many plantings – and an opportunity for applied science – in one of only four High School Arboreta in the U.S.

By recreating the club’s efforts in this show of summer display, the goal is to convey the concept that “the campus becomes classroom.”

Visitors can enjoy competitive flower arrangement classes, horticulture classes, photography classes, and botanical arts classes as well as educational and conservation exhibits.

The show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe. More information is available by calling 847-835-5440.
