On June 19, at approximately 4:49 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the Jewel Food Store in the 1100 block of Chicago Ave. for a report of a retail theft that just occurred where one of the offenders was armed with a knife, said Commander Joseph Dugan of the Evanston Police Department. On the scene, employees told police that a man and a woman were observed in the liquor section concealing three bottles of alcohol valued at $61.78 into their backpacks, said the Commander.
Employees confronted the two offenders and asked them to put the liquor back, but the offenders continued to walk towards the exit door. When the offenders approached the employees, the male offender opened up a pocket knife and held it out in front of his chest, said the Commander. Fearing for their safety, the employees did not attempt to stop the offenders any further.
Police located the offenders in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue where the alcohol and pocket knife were recovered, said the Commander.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges of armed robbery against the man, who is 32-years old and from Chicago and charges of retail theft against the woman, who is 37-years old and from Chicago, said the Commander.
