Daniel Biss released the following statement as the Senate successfully overrode Governor Rauner’s budget vetoes:
“Today, the Senate decided we will no longer let the Governor hurt people. In an unprecedented bipartisan alignment against Rauner’s bankrupt values and obstructionist tactics, we have demonstrated that money cannot buy legislative victories or public confidence.
“People in this state are ready for change. We will continue this momentum as we expand and strengthen our new coalition to ensure that today’s victory is the one of many during Rauner’s last two years in office. The time has come to take our state back from insiders and the wealthy, and I welcome anyone willing to join the fight.”
House Speaker Michael Madigan said the House will not vote to override the veto today, July 4, because many representatives traveled home for the Holiday.
