On July 6, at approximately 7:43 p.m., detectives from the Neighborhood Enforcement Team were in the area of Howard Street and Ridge Avenue and were heading south on Ridge Avenue when they were flagged down by an adult female who stated someone from a vehicle was firing a handgun on Birchwood Avenue just east of Ridge Avenue, in Chicago, said Commander Joe Dugan of the Evanston Police Department. As the detectives were checking Birchwood Avenue, they saw a male running west on Birchwood Avenue from Hoyne Avenue carrying a nickle plated handgun, said the Commander.The detectives immediately exited their vehicle and were able to take the male into custody without incident. Detectives recovered a loaded Colt .380 caliber handgun from the subject who was identified as being a 16-year old resident of Chicago.  

The juvenile was subsequently charged with two counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and transported to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.
