Friends of the Chicago River are sponsoring a program to assist with a planting project in the North Shore Channel which takes place on July 18 and 19, starting at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers will help to install 4,500 plugs of water willow and lizard’s tail along river banks in Evanston and Skokie. These plants will help provide a habitat for aquatic life, provide protection against flooding, and improve channel aesthetics.

Friends of the Chicago River and Illinois Department of Natural Resources staff will be on site to provide training and oversight. All necessary equipment and lunch will be provided.

Volunteers ages 18 and up are encouraged to participate on one or more of the scheduled dates. Interested parties can register by contacting Maggie Jones at 312-939-0490, ext. 18, or emailing mjones@chicagoriver.org.
