The City of Evanston is contracting improvements at James Park over the next five months. Work will take place south of Oakton Street and adjacent to the existing tennis courts. Improvements will include relocation and reconstruction of one baseball field, construction of a new soccer field, and reconstruction of a portion of the park’s existing bike path along Oakton Street.

Work will begin this week, and the project is anticipated to be complete in November 2017. In order to allow the athletic field grass adequate time to establish, the City anticipates that the new athletic fields will not be open for public use until the fall of 2018.

Limited parking restrictions on Oakton Street may be required as a result of the project. Temporary “No Parking” signs will be posted 48 hours in advance.

The project is funded through General Obligation Bond proceeds for Capital Improvement Projects.

The general contractor for this project is Elanar Construction Company, 6620 W. Belmont Ave., in Chicago. The City’s Capital Planning and Engineering Bureau will be responsible for monitoring the project. For questions or concerns during construction, please contact Bridget Nash, P.E., at 3-1-1 or 847-448-4311.
