At first, it looks like a machine dispensing candy or chips. But a closer look shows an array of the latest books and DVDs suitable for all ages. This is a book-lending machine in the vestibule at Robert Crown Community Center, 1701 Main St.

The new Evanston Public Library book lending machine holds more than 400 books and DVDs. Until further notice, only those with Evanston Public Library cards are eligible to borrow the materials. Books will be checked out for two weeks, DVDs one week. None is renewable.

Library Director Karen Danczak Lyons said the lending machine is a promise of things to come at Robert Crown. She says, “This is another step in our process as we encourage our families to expect library services at the Robert Crown location. We look forward to welcoming our families to Evanston’s Robert Crown Branch Library in a few years.”

The EPL book lending machine will be available any time Robert Crown is open. Materials can be returned at the book drop at Robert Crown or any of the library’s locations.
