On Aug.14, at approximately 2:45 a.m., police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Howard Street and Chicago Avenue in reference to a gunshot victim. According to witnesses, the victim, a 25-year old man from Chicago, was involved in a physical altercation with another man, said Commander Joe Dugan of the Evanston Police Department. During the altercation, the victim, was shot one time in the head by the suspect. The suspect fled the scene northbound on Chicago Avenue.

The victim, identified as Hamza Hammouis, was transported to St. Francis hospital where he was pronounced dead. Several witnesses have been located and are currently cooperating with investigators, said the Commander.  

Evanston police detectives along with members of the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF) are currently investigating the incident.  

The suspect is described as a black male, 25-years of age, approximately 6’0″ tall, medium build, wearing a white T-shirt and black pants, said the Commander.
