Dance Center Evanston student Olivia Mitchell represented the Cecchetti Council of America in the Senior Division of the 2017 Cecchetti International Classical Ballet Competition held in Florence, Italy, earlier this summer. Dancers, teachers, and coaches from all over the world were in attendance. A total of 56 competitors came from Australia, Canada, Italy, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the USA to present Classical and Contemporary solos. Olivia danced a classical variation from the ballet Paquita and a Contemporary solo of her own choreography.

Olivia has trained at Dance Center Evanston for the past 14 years, and recently passed her Cecchetti Advanced Ballet exam in preparation for this event. She is one of only three dancers who were chosen by the Cecchetti Council of America to participate in the Senior division of the CICB, the Cecchetti International Classical Ballet Competition.

Earlier this summer, Olivia completed a summer program on scholarship with the Oklahoma City Ballet, where she will return this fall as a member of the Second Company.
