The annual Jalisco in Evanston celebration will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 31 in the main auditorium of Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Ave. The theme is “México en el Corazón.” The free event, presented by the Federation of Hometown Associations from the State of Jalisco, Mexico (also known as “FEDEJAL”), is open to the public and will feature live mariachi music from Mariachi Juvenil Colotlán, folkloric dance performances by Ballet Folclórico Guadalajara, and artisans from Jalisco. Entertainment will begin at 6:30 p.m. Food will be available for purchase.
Jalisco en Evanston is part of FEDEJAL’s weeklong tour of the Chicago area. Each year, during the months of August and September, FEDEJAL celebrates “Semana Jalisco” (Jalisco Week), where it tours several Illinois cities to celebrate its culture and traditions.
