The City of Evanston will hold an open house public meeting concerning the Central Street Bridge Reconstruction Project. The meeting will take place:
Thursday, September 14
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
American Legion Evanston Post 42, Second Floor
1030 Central St.
The purpose of the project is to reconstruct the Central Street Bridge over the North Shore Channel. Originally constructed in 1908, the existing structure is approaching the end of its service life and requires complete replacement. The proposed structure is being planned to accommodate all roadway users and will consider the wide variety of adjacent land uses.
The meeting will include a brief presentation on the status of the project and the proposals under consideration. The presentation will cover topics including the need for the project, the preferred alternative, right-of-way acquisition, and the tentative construction schedule. Exhibits depicting the proposed improvements will be displayed throughout the open house. Representatives from the City and the consultant will be available to discuss the project, answer questions, and record comments.
The meeting room is accessible to those with a disability. Any person needing mobility or communications access assistance should contact the Facilities Management Office at 847-866-2916 (Voice) or 847-448-8064 (TYY).
The City is seeking public comments regarding the effects that the proposed replacement of the Central Street Bridge will have on the Canal Shores Golf Course, a not-for-profit public recreational facility. As such, it is subject to protection under Section 4(f) of the US Department of Transportation Act of 1966. The City intends to seek a Section 4(f) “de minims” impact finding from the Federal Highway Administration based on a determination that the project will not adversely affect the features, attributes or activities that qualify Canal Shores Golf Course for protection under Section 4(f).
Effects of the Central Street bridge replacement project on the Canal Shores Golf Course include the permanent acquisition of approximately 16 feet of right-of-way both north and south of the bridge in order to widen the sidewalk to 10 feet. There will be a temporary impact to the practice greens located south of Central Street. In addition, the golf cart path between the 12th hole and 13th hole will be temporarily rerouted to the west to provide a construction staging area. Mitigation will include the installation of a temporary traffic signal at Bryant Avenue to facilitate pedestrian and golf cart crossing through the construction zone. Impacted trees will be replaced on a three-to-one basis. All disturbed areas will be restored to their former condition or better.
Written comments may be emailed to email@example.com or mailed to Sat Nagar, P.E., Senior Project Manager, Public Works Agency, 2100 Ridge Ave., Evanston, IL 60201-2798. Comments must be received by September 30, 2017 to be considered as a part of the public record.
