Fourteen Evanston high school seniors have been named National Merit semifinalists. From Evanston Township High School: Benjamin P. Ballmer, Anika H. Blitzstein, Oliver Q. Brady, Arthur J. Brown, Meredith T. Byrnes, Mallen E. Clifton, Jasper L. Davidoff, Sophia S. Hachten, Judson O. Kuhrman, James C. Porter, and Nathan J. Shankar. From Beacon Academy: Annelise L. Goldman and James P. Hanafee; and from Roycemore School: Benjamin M. Hurley.
According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), of the approximate 16,000 semifinalists nationwide, 15,000 are expected to become finalists next spring, and about half of those will win a National Merit Scholarship. More than $32 million in 7,500 scholarships will be awarded to the Scholarship winners.
