On Oct.11, at approximately 8:11 p.m., an Evanston police officer conducted a traffic stop in the 400 block of Asbury Avenue due to the vehicle speeding, said Commander Joe Dugan of the Evanston Police Department.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected an odor of burnt cannabis coming from inside, the Commander said. The rear seat passenger was asked to exit the vehicle, and upon doing so police recovered a loaded Charter Arms .38 caliber revolver from his waistband, said the Commander. A further search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of cannabis from a cigarette box and also an unloaded Kahr .40 caliber handgun, said the Commander.

The rear seat passenger, an 18-year old from Evanston, was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon, a Class 2 Felony and related offenses, said the Commander.
