On Dec. 5 Mayor Steve Hagerty joined municipal leaders from across the United States, Canada, and Mexico in signing the Chicago Climate Charter, a first-of-its-kind international charter on climate change.
The signing took place at the Global Covenant of Mayors North American Climate Summit hosted by the City of Chicago. Speakers at the summit included President Barack Obama and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
By signing the charter, Mayor Hagerty and City leaders committed to address climate action at the local level by reducing greenhouse gas emissions while expanding economic opportunities and quality of life.
This year, Mayor Hagerty also committed to the Sierra Club’s Mayors for 100% Clean Energy initiative, supporting a community-wide transition to 100% renewable energy.
