City staff have announced that Interfaith Action of Evanston will open an overnight warming shelter at First Congregational Church, 1445 Hinman Ave., on Thursday, December 28, starting at 9 p.m.

City staff have also given the following weather alert for Dec. 28:

“Today should be mostly cloudy with a few intervals of sun possible and a high of 15 degrees. There is a chance for light snow/snow showers between 3 and 9 pm, where we can see up to 0.30 in of accumulation. Flurries may linger till midnight.

“Friday:  60% chance of snow with amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible. Best time for precipitation should be between 2 pm and 9 pm.

“The Public Works Agency is monitoring all forecasts and is on alert. We will send updates as they become available and as crews are deployed.”
