UPDATE – Police Investigating Pedestrian Involved Traffic Crash Fatality
The Major Crash Assistance Team (M.C.A.T) is continuing its investigation. Preliminarily, there are indications that the victim, a Chicago man, may have laid down on the roadway just prior to being struck, said Commander Joe Dugan of the Evanston Police Department. No citations or charges have been filed at this time against the 23 year old female driver, also of Chicago, he said.
The City of Evanston is reporting that a pedestrian struck by a car this morning, Jan. 3, died at the scene of the accident, Howard Street at Ridge Avenue.
The Evanston Police Department’s Traffic Bureau along with the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (N.O.R.T.A.F.), Major Crash Assistance Team (M.C.A.T.) are investigating the crash, which occurred at approximately 7 a.m.
According to the police, when officers arrived, “the striking vehicle was still on the scene and the victim, a 27- year-old male resident of Chicago, was transported by Evanston Fire Department Paramedics to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced deceased.”
The crash is still being actively investigated, according to the police, and the stretch of Howard Street from Ridge Avenue to Elmwood Avenue will be closed “for the duration.”
