Fifth Ward Alderman Robin Rue Simmons and Ninth Ward Alderman Cicely Fleming will participate in forming policies for the National League of Cities (NLC).

Ald. Simmons has been appointed to the NLC 2018 Community and Economic Development federal advocacy committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC’s federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community, and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness.

 “It’s an honor to be appointed to the National League of Cities 2018 Community and Economic Development Committee,” said Ald. Rue Simmons. “I look forward to representing Evanston as we work to develop smart policy solutions to address our cities’ most urgent issues.”

Ald. Fleming will serve on the NLC Council for Race, Equity and Leadership (CREAL), an initiative to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of local elected officials to eliminate racial disparities, heal racial divisions, and build more equitable communities. As a member of the REAL Council, Ald. Fleming will have the opportunity to share her expertise and insights to help achieve REAL’s mission.

Fleming. “I look forward to helping Evanston develop and implement an equity plan that uses proven strategies from other REAL Council members.
