On Feb. 8, at approximately 11:38 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Hovland Court for a call of shots fired, said Commander Ryan Glew of the Evanston Police Department. Upon arrival the officers located the victim, Yakez Semark. Mr. Semark, a 20-year old male resident of Chicago, had been in an apparent physical altercation with another subject, said the Commander. The subject shot the victim in the chest during the altercation, he said. The offender then fled on foot. The victim was transported to Evanston Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said the Commander.
Evanston Police Detectives along with members of the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF) are currently investigating the incident. The streets in the 1800 block of Hovland Court and the 1800 block of Grey Avenue are currently closed due to the investigation.
