One hundred forty Evanston Township High School students – 115 band members and 25 choir members – traveled to Disney World last month. Approximately 90 students marched in the Disney World parade at the Magic Kingdom. The ETHS musicians participated in concert band and choir clinics with the Disney staff in which they recorded Disney music that served as a backing track to the Disney video “Frozen.” They performed concerts in Disney Springs as a concert band, jazz band, and choir, and toured Epcot Center, Universal Studios, and the Animal Kingdom. Matthew Bufis, Director of Bands at ETHS said, “We travel every two years as a band program, alternating with our orchestra, and usually do Disney once every 4-6 years, due to the depth and breadth of opportunities in Disney.”
Students raised funds for the trip. Scholarships were also offered through the Fine Arts department and through the Unterman Fund – a special travel account available for students through an application process at ETHS.
