On March 9, at approximately 7:22 p.m., police officers stopped a vehicle in the 1300 block of Howard Street after noticing it did not have a functioning registration light, said Commander Ryan Glew of the Evanston Police Department. After detecting an odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle, the officers searched the  vehicle and found a loaded handgun under the front passenger seat, said Cmdr. Glew. Police took the passenger, a 31-year old Evanston man, into custody, said the Commander.

During the subsequent investigation, the passenger admitted to being in possession of the handgun, said the Commander. He was charged with one Felony Count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, and one Misdemeanor Count of Possession of Handgun/Ammunition without an FOID Card, said the Commander.
