Daniel Biss released the following statement as the Senate passed HB1465 to raise the age to buy assault weapons to 21, HB1467 to ban bump stocks and trigger cranks, and HB1468 to require cooling off periods for assault weapon purchases. Already passed in the House, these bills now head to Bruce Rauner’s desk.

“I’m proud to cosponsor these crucial reforms and relieved that my Senate colleagues joined the House in voting yes today, especially as students across the country walk out of their classrooms to demand action on gun violence. As these bills head to Bruce Rauner’s desk, I urge him to consider the stakes – to reflect on the lives lost in our communities and to put our families and our futures first.”
