Northwestern University and Evanston police are warning students and residents to stay away from the area just north of downtown around Emerson Street and Maple Avenue because of reports of a person with a gun.
At about 2:30 p.m., Northwestern University tweeted an alert to students and personnel to stay clear of the area. Some students said their buildings are on lockdown.
Evanston police officers are covering the area, searching for the suspect.
