Phase three of the Chicago Avenue/Sheridan Road Corridor Project will begin next month with water main installation on Sheridan Road north of Lincoln Street. Preliminary work will begin April 9 and will include temporary traffic staging and detour setup, tree trimming, and saw cutting of the pavement. The existing water main will then be replaced in two stages:

Sheridan Road, Lincoln to Central Streets, April 9 through May 22 Two-way traffic will be maintained in this section, with traffic shifted to the east side of the roadway.

Sheridan Road, Ingleside Place to Ridge Avenue, April 25 through June 7 One-way northbound traffic will be maintained from Ingleside Place to Ridge Avenue. A southbound detour will be posted directing vehicles to use Ridge Avenue from Isabella to Central Streets. A project location and detour map is included in the attached newsletter.

After water main installation, the roadway will be patched in preparation for full-width roadway construction, scheduled to begin on June 25. All patching is anticipated to be completed by the first week of June. Another newsletter with a detailed schedule will be sent in early June.

Construction activities will create some inconveniences for the abutting residents, but workers will attempt to minimize these issues.

The City of Evanston began Chicago Avenue/Sheridan Road Corridor Project improvements in April 2017. The project includes roadway resurfacing/reconstruction, a new protected bike lane, replacement of curb and gutter, traffic signal modernization, installation of new water main, storm sewer and drainage structures, pavement markings and landscaping. The project will make downtown Evanston and the Northwestern campus areas safer for bicyclists and pedestrians, while improving traffic flow and traffic safety. The improvement work is part of the City’s continuous program to improve the roadway system throughout the community and is funded by federal and local funds.

The contractor for this roadway project is Plote Construction, Inc., located at 1100 Brandt Dr., Hoffman Estates, IL.
