On March 24 at approximately 2:57 a.m., Evanston police officers were in the 600 block of Case Place when they come in contact with a parked and occupied Toyota, said Commander Ryan Glew of the Evanston Police Department in a prepared statement. Police officers detected an odor of burnt cannabis coming from the vehicle, and upon further investigation, they found a loaded High Point .45 caliber handgun, a small quantity of cannabis, and a pipe used for smoking cannabis.  Four people in the vehicle were transported to the police station for further investigation, said the Commander.

The handgun was recovered from a backpack belonging to one of the occupants, an 18-year old male, who admitted to possessing the handgun, said the Commander.  Approximately 1.8 grams of cannabis was recovered from the Chicago man; and the handgun was previously reported stolen to Oshkosh, Wisconsin Police.  The Chicago man was charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon-Possession of a Stolen Handgun.

A 24-year old Evanston woman was charged with local ordinance Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The other two occupants were released without charges.
