Eddie Stevens, III (76) passed away on March 16, in Omaha, Nebraska. The homegoing service was held at Roeder Mortuary Services, Inc., on March 24, also in Omaha.

Eddie was the only cherished son, born to the late Mary Louise Stevens and Eddie Stevens Jr. on Dec. 8, 1941. His alma mater was Evanston Township High School, where he was a talented and accomplished athlete in wrestling, track and football.

He continued his education on a football scholarship at the University of North Dakota, where he graduated with a degree in Education. Mr. Stevens went on to receive two master’s degrees.  He served students as Dean, Program Director of AAA, and tennis coach at ETHS for several years, until his retirement after 30-plus years. He was a beloved son, brother, father, friend, colleague and neighbor. He was well known in the Evanston Community.

Mr. Stevens was an avid reader, skilled fisherman, master builder and craftsman, and celebrated cook and baker. He loved hosting parties with family and friends. He especially cherished visiting his grandchildren and attending family reunions.

His mother and siblings called him by his nickname “Doon-a-boy.”

He is survived by wife Donna Stevens, ex-wife Ora Stevens, sons Charlie and Eddie IV Stevens, sisters Sondra Gunn (Lawrence), Cynthia Stevens Onyjekwe (Robert), and Gwendolyn Cain (Samuel), daughter-in law Holly Stevens, stepchildren, Cameron Campbell, Camille Campbell, Brittany Campbell, grandchildren, Ashley, Eddie V, Peyton and Justin Stevens, Amelia, Olivia, Onna, Theresa Campbell, cousin Randolph Relf, (who was like a brother), cousin Glenda Mitter, (who was also a close friend), and a host of other family of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.

It is the wish of his sisters, Sondra, Cynthia and Gwendolyn, that family and friends in the Evanston Community have a better opportunity to honor and pay respects to Eddie Stevens III. Another observance will be held at a later date (TBD).
