Evanston Police & Fire Foundation board members approved the appointment of Greg Klaiber as new Executive Director at the April 17 board meeting. The vote followed founding member and outgoing Executive Director James Gordon’s announcement that he would be stepping down.
Mr. Gordon had served on the Foundation since its inception in 2011 and took over as Executive Director in 2012, additionally serving as Chairman for the past 18 months.
Mr. Klaiber served 31 years on the City of Evanston’s Fire Department, six years as the City’s Fire Chief. Since 2016 he has been Director of Emergency Management at Northwestern University. Mayor Steve Hagerty called Mr. Klaiber “a proven leader in our community and in his profession.”
In accepting the role, Mr. Klaiber praised Mr. Gordon’s extraordinary dedication during his six years as the Foundation’s director and thanked him on behalf of the community.
“The EPFF has granted awards to the Evanston Fire and Police Departments that have directly benefited our first responders and the residents of Evanston,” Mr. Klaiber said. “Initiatives such as the Fire Explorer program, Police K9 program and File of L.I.F.E. would not be in place were it not for funding received from the EPFF.”
