The Justin Wynn Fund 31st Annual Awards ceremony was held on May 6 at the Hilton/Orrington Evanston. Each spring, the Justin Wynn Fund honors two fourth- graders from each of the 12 District 65 schools. The 24 recipients are selected by their teachers and administrators for demonstrating outstanding leadership, citizenship and sportsmanship. Approximately 290 people attended the brunch, including Paul Goren, Superintendent of School District 65, Eric Witherspoon, Superintendent of School District 202, and Stephen Hagerty, Mayor of Evanston.

The 2018 Justin Wynn Award recipients are: Oluwaseun Odufuwa and Julian Taylor – Bessie Rhodes; Angel Garay and Sophie Levy – Dawes; Maya Jaffe and Pradyumna Manur – Dewey; Santiago Castro and Amaya Johnson – King Arts; Rebecca Friedman and Miles Lyons – Kingsley; Broderick Munsey-Johnson and Mary Esther Ng – Lincoln; Claudia Nord and Rhiana Ruddock – Lincolnwood; Ava Kamae and Aaron Patiño – Oakton; Paige Smith and Linden Wadsworth – Orrington; Gwyneth DuBois and Kamerin Stephens  – Walker; Tinsae Geyer and Liviani Joy Sumi – Washington; Vivie Aceves and Ja’von Seals – Willard.

The Justin Wynn Fund was established in 1987 in memory of Justin Michael Wynn, who died in a swimming accident when he was 9-years old.  From this tragedy, the Wynn family and friends founded The Justin Wynn Fund and later the Justin Wynn Leadership Academy with the mission to celebrate and nurture youth leaders by helping them develop a deep sense of self and responsibility for improving our community.
