The Evanston Express Travel Softball program hosted its annual Memorial Day Tournament this past weekend at James Park. Mayor Stephen Hagerty threw out the ceremonial first pitch Friday evening to kick off the event which hosted 28 girls fastpitch softball teams.
In the 14U division, the Bandits prevailed over the Windy City ICE in a hard-fought championship game Sunday evening. Schaumburg beat Vernon Hills in an exciting 12U championship game and Schaumburg’s 10U team beat Skokie for the championship.
Perhaps the game of the tournament, however, was the extra-innings 12U game in which Chicago Rockets edged out Evanston Express by a score of 20-19 for the consolation bracket championship.
