State Track Champion Enyaeva Michelin was honored by the District 202 and District 65 School Boards at their May 21 joint meeting. She became the first in Evanston Township High School history to win the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 2 minutes, 8.44 seconds. She also placed second at the State meet in the 1,600 meter with a time of 4:47.36 and helped Evanston’s 4×400 relay place sixth in State.
Enyaeva had been honored by the Board once already this year, when she placed second in the State in cross country.
“I remember back in November being here and saying that I hope to do better in track,” said Enyaeva. She thanked the Boards for their work “to make things like this possible for all student athletes.” After growing up in Chicago, her time in Evanston gave her, “all the tools and all the things that I think I used to succeed” she said.
Coach Gunter introduced Enyaeva to the Boards as a “product of both” School Districts. She attended Haven Middle School and ETHS.
Superintendent Eric Witherspoon said Enyaeya “leads by example. She shows that kids can do multiple things well at the same time.”
Her win brought the school its 48th State IHSA championship.
