On June 7, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Evanston police assigned to the Neighborhood Enforcement Team responded to the west alley of the 2000 block of Wesley Avenue after receiving narcotics information, said Perry Polinski, media relations for the Evanston Police Department. Upon arrival, police located a white Lexus occupied by a man who was making furtive movements, said Mr. Polinski. Police made contact with the man who immediately became uncooperative and combative, resulting in the deployment of a taser to place him into custody, said Mr. Polinski. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm handgun with an extended magazine which was found under a towel on the front seat, he said. The 40-year old man, a resident of Evanston, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, possession of cannabis, and related charges, said Mr. Polinski.

In the second incident, a detective assigned to Criminal Investigations initiated a traffic stop on June 7 at approximately 6:25 p.m. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine, which was found under the driver’s seat, said Mr. Polinski. The driver, a 27-year old Evanston resident, was handcuffed. The man then fled on foot, but was placed back into custody a short distance away. He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, and related charges, said Mr. Polinski.
