Ogorod Productions, one of Chicago’s new production companies, has announced the cast and production team for its first production, “The Fantasticks.” The production team includes Evanston resident Francis Lynch, Production Manager and Company President; Kingsley Day, Music Direction; Evan Frank, Scenic Design; Cat Wilson, Lighting Design; Gary Nocco, Costume Design; and Devon Green, Properties Design.

With book and lyrics by Tom Jones, and music by Harvey Schmidt, this local production is directed by Brigitte Ditmars with a cast that includes Will Herndon (Matt), Jessica Surprenant (Luisa), Bailey Richardson (Hucklebee), Travis Monroe Neese (Bellomy), Noel Taylor (El Gallo), Brian McKnight (Henry), Lane Halverson (Mortimer), and Anna Backer (the Mute).

“The Fantasticks,” the longest-running musical ever written, seems on the surface to be a simple coming-of-age love story. Ogorod, whose name – appropriately for this show – is taken from the Russian word for “vegetable garden,” is proud to make its debut with this most beloved of musicals.

“The Fantasticks” will run for two weekends: June 22  and 24 and June 29 and July 1. Performances, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday, will take place at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes St. Tickets are available at ogorodproductions.org.
