On Aug. 17, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Evanston Police were in the area of the 300 block of Howard Street when they observed a black Dodge SUV fail to signal when required. Police Detectives performed a traffic stop on the vehicle, said Commander Ryan Glew of the Evanston Police Department.

Detectives made contact with the driver, a 28-year old Chicago man, and a female passenger. Detectives could smell an odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle and investigated, said Commander Glew.  The investigation led to the recovery of a loaded Sig Sauer .40 caliber handgun from under the driver’s seat, 23 green pills that field tested positive for MDMA, and less than one gram of cannabis, said the Commander. The driver admitted to possessing the handgun, the MDMA and the cannabis, said the Commander.

The driver was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, possession of a controlled substance and related charges said the Commander.
