Evanston Township High School Boosters is hosting its sixth annual Boosterpalooza from 6 to 10 p.m. on Sept. 8 at the Sherman Plaza Garage Rooftop, 821 Davis St. The event brings together people from throughout the community to support ETHS students while enjoying a line-up of local bands, food and beverages under the stars.
Most high school booster clubs focus exclusively on raising funds for their school’s sports teams, but ETHS Boosters is unique in that it is the only school that works to promote all extracurricular activities including fine arts, after-school clubs and sports.
The event began six years ago when a group of moms decided to streamline the Booster club’s smaller fundraisers to create one annual celebration that would bring together parents, alumni, and friends of ETHS to celebrate the kick-off to a new year.
The organizers wanted to mimic the popular Lollapalooza that many of their teenagers were attending, but securing an outdoor location where alcohol could be served was a challenge. Thanks to some out-of-the-box thinking and support from the City Council, the top floor of the Sherman Plaza Garage was the perfect spot.
The idea proved successful. Last year, nearly 700 guests attended and more than $85,000 was raised.
This year’s musical line-up includes country singer Steve Silver, Indie pop band Eve’s Twin Lover and rock music by Suite Molly Seven. The ETHS Marching Band will also make an early appearance at 7 p.m.
All adults from the Evanston community are welcome to attend. Come join the fun and support the ETHS Boosters so that every student, no matter what their interests, can have a meaningful and fulfilling experience at ETHS.
