It’s Sept. 15, the 261st day of the year; 104 days remain in 2018. The National Weather Service reports that yesterday’s Lake Michigan temperatures were 75 at the Chicago shore, 69 at the Chicago crib and 71 at the Wilmette buoy.

Evanston continues mourning the loss of its beloved former Mayor, Alderman, and District 65 teacher and principal, Lorraine Morton.

The City created an area in the Morton Civic Center to honor Mayor Morton’s memory so community members could visit and sign a book of remembrance last week. This area has been moved within the building to the Fleetwood-Jourdain Art Gallery on the second floor. Visitors may drop by during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Friday, September 21. 

The City of Evanston joins the community in mourning the loss of beloved former Mayor Lorraine H. Morton, who died on Saturday, September 8 at the age of 99. Mayor Morton was Evanston’s first African-American mayor and the City’s longest-serving mayor, serving for 16 years from 1993 to 2009.
