At about 8:45 on Sept. 20, the Evanston Fire Department was dispatched for a swimmer in distress behind a home in the 2700 block of Sheridan Road. The Evanston Fire Department responded with a full water rescue response, deploying rescue swimmers within six minutes of dispatch.
When the first fire company arrived on scene they encountered one swimmer in the lake stating his friend went under. Evanston Fire companies marked the last location of the victim. Rescue swimmers were deployed and converged on the area pulling the victim from the lake at approximately 9:16 a.m. Fire companies were waiting on shore, and administered CPR immediately. The patient, who is believed to be in his mid 50s, was transported to Evanston Hospital, where as of 10:47 a.m. he remained in critical condition.
