Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Literary and Fine Arts School earned an Exemplary Arts School designation, a five-year designation, from the National Arts Schools Network. King Arts is one of 16 schools across the nation to receive this honor.
“We are honored to receive this distinction. It validates all of the work we have done to make our Arts magnet mission a reality, and it encourages us to continue growing and enhancing our programs,” said Jeff Brown, King Arts Principal.
The Literary and Fine Arts focus of the school was formally adopted in 2011 by the District 65 School Board as a result of its strategic planning process. While King Arts follows the standard District 65 curriculum, there is a special emphasis on integrating the arts across a wide spectrum of the curriculum, as well as promoting specific literary and fine arts activities. The mission of King Arts is to provide all students with a dynamic educational experience that focuses on the fine and performing arts and emphasizes literature and writing.
