At the Oct. 1 Human Services Committee meeting, City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz said the process of searching for a new police chief continues. The City held a meeting on Sept. 5 for residents to weigh in on qualities they would like to see in a new chief, and a second meeting is scheduled at Evanston Township High School later this month.
“We hope to have candidates selected by the end of this month,” Mr. Bobkiewicz said, “and we hope to have the new chief selected by the end of the year.”
The City’s Equity & Empowerment Commission will suggest questions to ask the finalists, Mr. Bobkiewicz said, and will sit in on the two panels that will interview those finalists. Some few residents – perhaps six or seven each – and, so as not to violate the Open Meetings Act, no more than three aldermen will be sit on the panels as well. Anyone interested in being on the panel may email Mr. Bobkiewicz at citymanagersoffice @cityofevanston.org.
