Small Business Saturday – Nov. 24 this year – is a national movement on the Saturday after Black Friday. Bookends & Beginnings, 1712 Sherman Ave., will host two author/food events: from 3 to 4:30 p.m. a meet & greet with Ellen King, author of “Heritage Baking,” and “Carrie Schloss,” author of “The Asheville Bee Charmer Cookbook,” and from 5 to 7 p.m. free beer and pizza tasting with Steve Dolinsky of ABC-TV and his new book, “Pizza City USA.”
With the “We Love Evanston” Shopping Passport, shoppers who spend $100 or more at participating businesses will receive a gift bag. Shoppers are encouraged to pick up a Shopping Passport at participating businesses and, when they have spent $100 at participating stores, take the passport to One River School, 1033 Davis St. The first 150 people will receive a Shop Small tote, a coffee mug, a custom-designed bamboo coaster and a pound of Colectivo Coffee.
Various stories will have discounts on purchases, offer holiday gifts to shoppers or host in-store events.
