On Nov. 19, Evanston Police responded to 516 Church St., First United Methodist Church, for a call of an unresponsive subject. The responding officers found a deceased woman in a doorway on the east side of the church. Because she had significant head trauma, the police have decided to investigate the death as a homicide.

North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF) responded to assist the Police Department with the investigation. The medical examiner ruled manner of death as homicide and cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head. 

The victim has been identified as Tanuel Major, 49. She  was homeless at the time of her death, but she frequented Evanston. She was not affiliated with Northwestern University. 

The investigation indicates this homicide is an isolated incident. 

The Evanston Police Department and NORTAF are continuing their investigation. No one is in custody
