At 6:49 a.m., Monday, November 26, Evanston fire companies responded to the 1100 Block of South Blvd. following the report of a structure fire in a single-family residence.

First-arriving companies encountered heavy smoke and moderate fire conditions in the front of the building. Firefighters made entry into the home and initiated an interior attack and search, resulting in an all-clear. Due to the quick offensive attack, the fire was extinguished within 30 minutes of the initial call.

The alarm was upgraded to the MABAS Box level, bringing in additional equipment from other municipalities to assist with the fire and and cover the City of Evanston in case other fires occured. There were three reported firefighter injuries, all minor in nature.

According to investigators on the scene, the cause of the fire was determined to be from candles used for Christmas decorations.
