At 3:51 a.m. on Dec. 25, Evanston fire companies responded to the 1700 Block of Brown Ave. following the report of a structure fire in a single-family residence.

Upon arrival it was reported all the residents had safely evacuated the home prior to the fire department’s arrival. The first-arriving companies encountered heavy smoke and moderate fire conditions in the rear of the building. Firefighters made entry into the home and initiated an interior attack and search, resulting in an all-clear. Due to the quick offensive attack, the fire was extinguished within 30 minutes of the initial call.

The Evanston Fire Department transported three of the residents to Evanston Northshore Hospital for minor smoke inhalation; all were treated and released. The extent of damage to the structure has displaced the family, which is being assisted by other family relatives. There were no reported firefighter injuries and the fire is still under investigation, said the EFD in a prepared statement.
