Two upcoming theatrical performances celebrate Black History Month.
A staged reading of “The Whipping Man” by Matthew Lopez will take place at 3 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes St.
The Center for the Church and the Black Experience at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Northwestern University, and Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre will host the reading of this emotionally potent play. A discussion about the play’s themes will follow.
This event is free and open to the public. Light snacks and beverages will be served.
Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre will present “All Hail The Queen,” featuring the singer Qiana McNary and The McNary Experience Band at 3 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the theater in the Noyes Cultural Arts Center. This concert is a tribute to Aretha Franklin, the Queen
of Soul.
Tickets are available at fjt.org or at the door. Attendees can enjoy a post-concert reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres.
