The McGaw YMCA Annual Gala held on Jan. 26, at 1000 Grove St. and was a tremendous success. Nearly 400 guests braved the snow and falling temperatures to come together in support of the McGaw Y. The community-focused event proved to be a heartfelt celebration of the McGaw Y mission, raising more than $290,000 to benefit its full spectrum of accessible and equitable programs serving all of Evanston.

This year McGaw Y debuted a new way to honor and recognize an extraordinary individual who is making a difference in the community. The inaugural Lorraine H. Morton Award for Commitment to Community was created in memory of the late Mayor of Evanston who herself demonstrated a long-standing dedication to bringing the community together. Chute Middle School Principal Jim McHolland, a leader in the community who has been remarkably generous with his time and support of youth, was the first to accept this award.
