In conjunction with the celebration of Black History Month, the Unity Scholarship Committee recently sponsored its 12th annual Scholarship Fair at Evanston Township High School. The Unity Scholarship Committee is composed of more than 20 organizations – such as churches, sororities, fraternities, and family and community groups – that came together more than 30 years ago to support Black youth in continuing their education, and to inspire the Black community to increase funding of scholarships for these youths.
Since then Unity organizations have awarded more than $1 million to minority and other deserving youth.
Scholarship Fair Chairperson, retired Judge Mary Maxwell Thomas, said this year’s fair was extremely successful. “It was attended by more than 100 students, Representatives from over a dozen organizations were present to distribute scholarship applications and chat with students about their educational and career goals.”
