On March 8 at 9:35 p.m. Evanston Police responded to 1827 Simpson Street for a death investigation, said Commander Ryan Glew of the Evanston Police Department. Officers arrived and located a man lying in the yard behind 1827 Simpson St., close to Twiggs Park. The man had suffered numerous gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Angel Miranda of the 2800 block of South Central Park Avenue in Chicago. Miranda was in the area visiting friends. It was Miranda’s friends that discovered him and called Evanston Police, said the Commander.
Evanston police had received and investigated a call of shots fired in that general area approximately 90 minutes prior to his discovery. Based on the prior call of shots fired and indicators at the scene Evanston police are investigating Mr. Miranda’s death as a homicide and believe it occurred at approximately 8 p.m., said the Commander.
This appears to be an isolated incident, the Commander added. No one is in custody.
